Life by the Word

Chapter 26

Knowing Eyes

And early in the morning He came again into the Temple  and all the people came unto Him; and He sat down, and taught them."

"And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto Him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto Him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the Law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest Thou?"

"This they said, tempting Him, that they might have to accuse Him."

"But Jesus stooped down, and with His finger wrote on the ground, as though He heard them not. So when they continued asking Him, He lifted up Himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again He stooped down, and wrote on the ground."

"And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst."

"When Jesus had lifted up Himself, and saw none but the woman, He said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?"

"She said, No man, Lord."

"And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." (John 8:2-11 KJV)

Have you ever been caught doing something you just shouldn't have been doing? Maybe, it was for something that you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time situation? Or, maybe just maybe it was for a bad habit that you have developed over the years that has now suddenly caused you public humiliation. Whatever the case you have been found out and the not so sympathetic public along with long hand of the Law is ready to string you up. Pictures and articles in the newspaper sharing private information about your blunder? The neighbors not saying "Hello" as cheerful as before in the morning? Your kids in school getting harassed for so called Daddy's huge mistake in school.? Relatives turning their backs even more than usual because you almost disgraced the family name it seems for eternity? Sound familiar?  I have been there. And it is not a nice place to be. If you were totally honest with yourself you probably like to hop on a jet plane and head to Mexico just to try and get a new start. But because of obligations and family ties and having to leave the two or three people that truly love you behind. You stay. Stay to face the persecution. Stay to face the pain and humiliation. Stay to try and start over again against impossible odds. Court fines and restitution payments are nothing compared to facing your piers and loved ones at the next family reunion. No, they cannot compare to the whispers and all the turn away looks that make you feel two feet tall. Maybe they are deserved. Maybe your act of sin or crime was terrible enough do warrant such disrespect. Then again, maybe it wasn't. But we know people are people and they love to talk and laugh at others mistakes. In the same time forgetting how they too would be embarrassed if all their skeletons would some how  be revealed to the world for everyone to see. Let us be honest my friends. People love to judge other people. The media with all its gossip shows and the magazines with all their fan fair hoopla love to tell tales and prey on people who make bad decisions. Even ESPN has turned into a mini "As the sports world turns at times" I mean that I am so sick of hearing if Brett Favre is coming back to the NFL. I turn the channel now when ever I see Number 4 face dawn on my television screen. (No offense to Brett, but come on enough is enough!) All I know and what God has taught me over the years is that people love a scandal! The passage of scriptures above on this page proves what I am trying to convey here. Case in point; A woman, (do you see how compassionate and considerate God is? He doesn't embarrass her by giving her name away. So that people can make fun of her until the end of time.
/files/Glory Stealer/Images/forgiveness_from_christ.jpgNo, God just calls her ‘a woman’ in the Bible. Just wanted to point that out here. It is important knowing you serve a Lord who is interested in protecting your honor. Even when your dead wrong and have been caught.) She has been caught in the act of adultery and the scribes and leaders of the area want her to be stoned. The truth is she is about to be killed here. She is about to die for her sinful act. But Jesus, as people are standing up to accuse her, stoops down and begins to write in the sand. What is amazing about this is that one by one from the oldest to the youngest begin to drop their stones and walk away. Did you hear that my friends. One more time if you missed it. From the oldest to the youngest. Maybe, just maybe as the Lord Jesus Christ was writing down all of their sins who were about to cast the first rock. Just maybe he was reminding them all of their blunders of their past. And maybe, the ones who had lived the longest realized they were guilty of more than the others and had made more mistakes than them in their lives. So, one by one they dropped their stones. One by one they in this process of accusation of this one woman knew they were also found out by Jesus Christ’s knowing eyes. So instead of casting the first stone, or more importantly facing their own judgment of their piers decided to walk away. Until there was none except Jesus and the woman, alone sitting there amongst all the writings in the ground imprinted there by the Lord's hand. This is where we see an example of the God we serves gentleness. Here we see of his protection and kindness, His love and the power of the word forgiveness that he has for us. "Where are they now that accuse you, woman." Jesus says to her. Let me ask you something my friends. Are you like this woman mentioned in the scriptures above living with the burden of guilt of what you have done in your past? Has the world and devil reminded  you daily of your so called biggest blunders in your life's history. Maybe a failed marriage, alcoholism, drug abuse, a prison sentence?  Do you feel the weight of others eyes looking at you with condemnation instead of mercy? Does it seem that you just can't get away from the hurt that you have put on others? And that guilt has allowed you to be paralyzed in an emotional sense. If so, I want you to do me this favor today. Read the above scripture until you truly understand that Jesus wants you to get on the right track again. He wants to save you before you get buried so deeply that you cannot get out from under. Christ turned away this crowd with just one finger. As he scribbled the accusers stain filled lives in the dirt. Jesus was at the same time making another persons life beautifully clean again. He can do that for you also my friends. All you have to do is take his atoning act on the cross. And accept it as a free gift of salvation. He offers this to all! Will you accept it? Will you feel worthy enough to realize that your life's black board of blunders can be completely erased by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. The offers there, sitting right in front of you my friends. And just like the woman who was caught in adultery in the Bible. Jesus Christ will help you too. No matter what the cost he will defend you also. So to you who has been drinking to much. To you who has denigrated yourself by sleeping around in the form of sex outside of marriage or the affair that ‘no-one knows about’. To the one who has been stealing. To the person who has a drug addiction. And to you who is about to give up and is on a path of self destruction. Today is the first day of your new life with Christ. Choose death or choose life. Isn't it time we start to change our lives around by making the most important decision of our lives? I hope you choose Jesus! I really hope you do! I love you my friends. God bless you on your new journey and life with the Lord. Best to you always.

Love, Al
